We give the Internet back its !

Matrix has been shut down on 31.05.!

As you have probably noticed, there were always long-lasting failures and performance restrictions.
These problems have been getting worse and worse over the last few months.
The reason for this is that at Matrix the database continues to grow over time and especially large rooms are a heavy burden on the server.
On the part of the developers, optimizations have been promised for years, only small things have always come that are not enough to noticeably improve the situation.
I have now reached the point where it no longer makes sense for me to continue to operate the service, because it is hardly usable in its current form and I assume that most users have already searched for and found an alternative anyway.
I would like to thank you for your loyalty over all these years and apologize for the many difficulties, especially over the past few months.
The service has been shut down, all data has been deleted!
Given the situation with Matrix, I recommend switching to Session or Jabber/XMPP, which in my experience work much more reliably. Both are also open-source, secure and decentralized.
Session is based on an anonymization network similar to Tor, whose service nodes are also responsible for delivering and caching messages - no specific server has to be selected, this happens randomly and if one fails, the next one takes over.
Jabber/XMPP works according to the same concept as Matrix - you are looking for a server on which your account is located and have an address in which the server domain occurs. However, Jabber/XMPP causes significantly less load on the server and its database does not grow endlessly, which means that this service can be operated with significantly less difficulty.

If you want to stay with Matrix, there is a large selection of other servers on which you can register.
The server change is relatively easy, because Matrix chats are not bound to a specific server.
You cancould simply invite your new account to existing chats and then leave the chat with your old account, so the chat history will be preserved.
Warning: With the shut down of the service, this is unfortunately no longer possible. You can, however, let the other person invite your new account to your existing chat.

If you have any questions or problems, you can of course contact support@nikisoft - even beyond the end of the service.one turn.
